Seniors

Our Mission

The mission of the Beth El Seniors is to enrich the lives of Beth El Congregation's senior members by providing a high level of programming and entertainment in a setting designed to promote sociability and good fellowship.

Our History

The Beth El Seniors is the outgrowth of the former Beth El Club ’50 and the Beth El Couples Club.

Accomplishments

  • Torah Maintenance Fund: As a result of successful fund raising efforts through contributions and the sale of our Torah Maintenance Cards, we are able to pay the congregation monies to repair the many Torah and Megillah Scrolls.
  • Charitable Work: We have made and donated blankets to Washington Children's Hospital in memory of Jake Rome.
  • Seniors Shabbat: We sponsor and participate in the annual Seniors Shabbat services. Our seniors’ members take on the role of Clergy, Gabbaim and Torah readers, leading the congregation in prayer. Other members participate in congregational Aliyiot, English readings and even the weekly sermon. Following these special services, an outstanding Kiddush is offered to the entire congregation.
  • Monthly Lunch/Dinner with Entertainment: Each month, The Beth El Seniors hold dinner meetings with tasty catered meals and talented entertainment. Our entertainment committee seeks out the finest local talent available, including many singers and musicians. With attendance averaging over 100, Beth El Seniors consistently draws the largest senior crowd in Northwest Baltimore.
  • Outside Events: Whenever possible, we try to hold programs that might interest the Senior Members of the congregation. In the past, we have had Medicare programs sponsored by organizations like AARP and AAA.
  • Membership: Our organization is open to those who are 50 years of age or older. We welcome both members and non members of Beth El. Dues are only $18 per person or $36 per couple for the year. Dinner meetings run $21 for members and $24 for guests. Contact Ellen Budish for a membership application.
