In increasing numbers, we moderns struggle with the dissonance created when our 21st century knowledge, experience, and sensibilities clash with our religious life and practice. There will be three courses offered that will explore the clash between ancient texts and practices and modern practitioners of the tradition. In this second course we will investigate how we draw meaning from and make sense out of biblical narratives. What meaning can we draw from narratives about talking donkeys, parting seas, miraculous healings, or people walking on water or raising the dead to life, to name but a few? What, if any, religious guidance are we to take from such texts?
