Volunteer Shabbat and Shabbat Smorgasbord
Saturday, December 11
Last year we initiated our first-ever Shabbat Smorgasbord program, and featured different alternatives to the traditional Beth El Shabbat service. There was a lot of positive responses to the morning, and the request that we do it again. So, we’re doing it again, but with some changes that reflect your feedback. Come and enjoy a special Shabbat filled with options for alternative services at Beth El.
Torah Study 9:00-9:45 a.m. in the Rabbi Jacob B. Agus Library
Our morning will start with our traditional Shabbat Torah Study class in the Agus Library from 9:00-9:45 a.m. Everyone is welcome and invited to attend.
Shabbat Hadash Service 10:00-11:30 a.m. in the Gorn Chapel (please note new venue!)
Rabbi Schwartz and Cantor King will lead a Shabbat Hadash service in the Gorn Chapel following our Torah study. This uplifting and contemporary service features a full band, alternative melodies to our traditional services, an abbreviated Torah service, and a meditative Musaf service.
Healing Service 10:00-11:00 a.m. in the Kreitzer Memorial Room
Rabbi Dana Saroken will again lead a Healing Service. Last year during the Shabbat Smorgasbord this service was well attended, deeply moving, and described as "highly meaningful" by those in attendance.
Learner's Service 10:00-11:00 in the Kolker Room (please note new venue!)
Rabbi David Greenspoon will lead a Learner's Service as the newest offering in our Shabbat Smorgasbord. The focus of this service is to help you feel more comfortable and confident with the prayers of our traditional Shabbat morning service. This service will feature an interactive "teach-and-do" approach so that participants can learn the what, why, and how of the main parts of the morning service, the Shema and the Amidah prayers.
Volunteer Recognition 11:30 a.m. in the Gorn Chapel
Please join us as Beth El Congregation celebrates the volunteers that help make our congregation such a special community.
