Thursday, April 19 (8:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m.)
This trip offers a day of unique and diversified experiences. Our first stop will be the Philadelphia Museum of Art to view the special exhibit Van Gogh Up Close. Vincent Van Gogh was an artist of exceptional intensity not only in his use of color and exuberant application of paint but also in his personal life.Drawn powerfully to nature, his works, particularly those created in the years just before he took his own life, engage the viewer with the strength of his emotions. This exhibition focuses on the tumultuous feverish artistic experimentations that began when Van Gogh left Antwerp for Paris in 1886 and continued until his death in Auvers in 1890.
After lunch on your own at the Museum, our group will take a short ride to Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. We will have a docent led tour of mosaicist Isaiah Zagar’s remarkable Magic Gardens. The Gardens include a fully mosaic indoor gallery and a massive outdoor labyrinthine mosaic sculpture. Zagar began working on the Gardens in 1994 and for the last 17 years has dedicated his work to beautifying the South Street neighborhood of his city.
