Cultural Trips Series sponsored by the Beth El Sisterhood
Each year in the fall and spring the Cultural Series provides subscribers with day trips to special attractions, historical sites, and museums locally and in the neighboring Mid- Atlantic States. Transportation for all trips is provided by Superior Tours. The experience gives participants the opportunity to learn as well as socialize. Sisterhood and Congregational members are given priority in making reservations for these trips. In person reservations are required. If you know someone who is working or out -of –town on registration day, you may register that individual. AN INDIVIDUAL MAY MAKE ONLY ONE ADDITIONAL REGISTRATION.
Bucks County, PA: Mansions Along the Delaware and Progressive Lunch

7:15 a.m. - 6:30 p.m.
This trip will take us to Bensalem and Bristol Pennsylvania. Our first stop will be Glen Foerd Mansion where we will be served an appetizer buffet with assorted drinks. Once we have eaten, we will tour the first floor of the mansion and have free time to enjoy the beautiful gardens. Our next stop will be Pen Ryan Mansion where we will partake of a hot lunch buffet with salad and beverages.
After lunch, we will travel to Bristol, PA where we will tour Grundy Mansion and Museum. Our group will conclude its progressive lunch with a dessert buffet at the Bucks County Visitors Center. This trip provides an opportunity to see lovely mansions as well as please the palate.
Washington, DC: Capitol Visitor Center, U.S. Capitol, and Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
The first stop on this trip will be to the Capitol Visitor Center which opened in November, 2008 and has received rave reviews. It took six years to build the 580,000 sq. ft. 3 level structure at a cost of $621 million. In the Center you will learn about the Capitol Dome, the history of Congress and the Capitol and the Constitution and the Capitol. Then our group will go on a docent lead tour of the Capitol and observe the changes that have been made since the opening of the Visitor Center. Please note: you must have photo ID on this trip. Leaving the Capitol, our group will proceed to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History which is celebrating its centennial year. On arrival, you will have time to eat lunch on your own in either the Atrium Café or Fossil Café. Following lunch, you are free to explore the museum’s permanent and special exhibits until 3:45 P.M.

Philadelphia, PA: National Museum of American Jewish History and Congregation Mikveh Israel

This trip will take us to the historical district of Philadelphia where we will tour the National Museum of American Jewish History. The five story museum is scheduled to open in November, 2010. Three floors of the museum chronicle 350 years of American Jewish experience and one floor is dedicated to changing exhibits. The Gallery/Hall of Fame holds the exhibit “Only in America” which highlights the outstanding accomplishments of American Jews. This museum gives one the opportunity to learn and marvel at the lives, experiences, and contributions of Jews in America. Once the tour is completed, you will have lunch on your own in one of the numerous eateries in the area. After lunch, our group will meet at Congregation Mikveh Israel, the oldest synagogue in Philadelphia, for a docent led tour.
Washington, DC: Holocaust Museum and the Dennis & Phillip Ratner Museum

Once again, Beth El returns to Washington, DC for a visit to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum. The permanent exhibit consists of artifacts, displays and visual presentations on three floors of the museum. Besides the permanent exhibit, there are a number of special exhibits such as Daniel’s Story, Genocide Around the World, and the Hall of Remembrance. Whether this is your first or fourth trip to the museum, you will find your visit informative and moving. We leave the museum and our bus takes us to Chevy Chase, Maryland where our group will have a delicious lunch at Maggiano’s.
Following lunch, our day will conclude at The Dennis and Phillip Ratner Museum. Exhibitions at the museum include a permanent collection of the art of Phillip Ratner in sculpturing, drawing, painting, and graphics; exhibits of the works of established professional immerging artists which changes each month; traveling exhibitions; and Adam Bright and the New Zoo.
