Renewal Service with Chaya Li Sharon                  Sessions I & II           Room 213-214
Have you ever wondered why Judaism does not place a spiritual value on a holistic approach to prayer, involving movement with breath, meditation and chanting? Well, the fact is that these are indeed ancient Jewish spiritual practices that are being reclaimed more and more by contemporary Jews and Judaism. Using the weekly Torah portion for inspiration, this Shabbat morning service is designed to provide an alternative, contemporary Jewish Shabbat morning service incorporating these practices. Participants are asked to please wear comfortable clothing and bring a cushion or pillow to sit on; chairs will also be available.
Chaya Li Sharon IYT, AYC, E-RYT-500 is the Founder and Director of the Chaya for Life Center in Delray Beach, FL.  She co-developed this service with Rabbi David Greenspoon and led the service for three years at his Berkshires congregation. She brings over 25 years experience as a Holistic Health Educator and Spiritual Teacher, specializing in Yoga and Massage Therapy, Ayurvedic Holistic Healing and Nutrition, Dance, and Contemporary Jewish spirituality. She is also a program presenter at both the Kripalu Center and Canyon Ranch in the Berkshires, and the Omega Center in Rhineback, NY. Chaya has been featured on Yoga International Magazine, Kripalu Yoga; A Guide to Practice On and Off the Mat, and is the author of Yoga of Action; Holistic Lifestyle and Adaptive Yoga for People with Multiple Sclerosis and Similar Conditions.

Learning Service I with Jess Minnen                       Session I                     Gorn Chapel
Why do people so often feel left out of the service? This session will help participants better understand the Shabbat morning service through learning and discussion. Be guided through the service and talk about each of its main parts and prayers. Touch on some history, what prayers mean, and why we say them as well as learn some choreography. Participants will gain a better understanding of the service itself, and with some new tools to help them experience services as way to connect with G-d and the Jewish community.

Learning Service II with Jess Minnen & Becky Gordon    Session II        Gorn Chapel
Now DO what was learned! This family-friendly service will be participatory, will reference the learning in the previous session, and include a short Torah service.

Both sections are open to anyone who wishes to participate, not just families. Chavura Chadashah families can attend the first session as part of their Parent Ed. requirement, and then choose to stay or attend one of the other Smorgasbord offerings. Win-win! (General participants can choose to attend one or the other or both. They will function as distinct entities, but will also build on each other for those who choose to do both.
Jess Minnen is no stranger to Beth El Congregation, having served as the Coordinator for Chavurah Chadashah from 2007-2009.  Jess is currently a first-year Rabbinical Student at the Jewish Theological Seminary of America in New York City, where she was awarded a prestigious Crown Fellowship.
Becky Gordon is best known around Beth El Congregation as Morah Becky.  She serves as a music leader for Beth El Schools, and can often be found with her guitar working with the preschool in the Shuster Library, running Tot Shabbat in the Kreitzer Memorial Room, or with Rabbi Saroken and the Religious School students and their families for Family Services in the Gorn Chapel.
