Beth El will be the host for the Jewish Theological Seminary’s Hereld Day of Study here in Baltimore on Sunday, January 24th. This program is sponsored by the Seminary for the entire Baltimore area Conservative Movement congregations. Professor Amy Kalmanofsky will speak on the topic Two Strange Stories of Resurrection in the Bible. Break-out sessions will allow participants to explore these fascinating accounts and gain deeper insights and meaning from the texts.
Dr. Kalmanofsky received her PhD from the Jewish Theological Seminary in 2005 and an MHL and rabbinic ordination from the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College in 1995. She is an assistant professor of Bible at JTS, teaching courses on biblical literature, religion, and feminist interpretation of the Bible. Her articles “Israel’s Baby: The Horror of Childbirth in the Biblical Prophets” and “The Monstrous Feminine in the Book of Jeremiah” appeared in Biblical Interpretation and Lectio Difficilior. She also contributed to The Torah: A Woman’s Commentary and her book Terror All Around: Horror, Monsters and Theology appeared in 2008. Currently she is working on a book entitled Sister to Sister: The Literary Representation of Sisters in the Hebrew Bible.
